    CyberLiveApp: a secure sharing and migration approach for live virtual desktop applications in a cloud environment

    In recent years we have witnessed the rapid advent of cloud computing, in which the remote software is delivered as a service and accessed by users using a thin client over the Internet. In particular, the traditional desktop application can execute in the remote virtual machines without re-architecture providing a personal desktop experience to users through remote display technologies. However, existing cloud desktop applications mainly achieve isolation environments using virtual machines (VMs), which cannot adequately support application-oriented collaborations between multiple users and VMs. In this paper, we propose a flexible collaboration approach, named CyberLiveApp, to enable live virtual desktop applications sharing based on a cloud and virtualization infrastructure. The CyberLiveApp supports secure application sharing and on-demand migration among multiple users or equipment. To support VM desktop sharing among multiple users, a secure access mechanism is developed to distinguish view privileges allowing window operation events to be tracked to compute hidden window areas in real time. A proxy-based window filtering mechanism is also proposed to deliver desktops to different users. To support application sharing and migration between VMs, we use the presentation streaming redirection mechanism and VM cloning service. These approaches have been preliminary evaluated on an extended MetaVNC. Results of evaluations have verified that these approaches are effective and useful

    Hyperbolic Geometric Graph Representation Learning for Hierarchy-imbalance Node Classification

    Learning unbiased node representations for imbalanced samples in the graph has become a more remarkable and important topic. For the graph, a significant challenge is that the topological properties of the nodes (e.g., locations, roles) are unbalanced (topology-imbalance), other than the number of training labeled nodes (quantity-imbalance). Existing studies on topology-imbalance focus on the location or the local neighborhood structure of nodes, ignoring the global underlying hierarchical properties of the graph, i.e., hierarchy. In the real-world scenario, the hierarchical structure of graph data reveals important topological properties of graphs and is relevant to a wide range of applications. We find that training labeled nodes with different hierarchical properties have a significant impact on the node classification tasks and confirm it in our experiments. It is well known that hyperbolic geometry has a unique advantage in representing the hierarchical structure of graphs. Therefore, we attempt to explore the hierarchy-imbalance issue for node classification of graph neural networks with a novelty perspective of hyperbolic geometry, including its characteristics and causes. Then, we propose a novel hyperbolic geometric hierarchy-imbalance learning framework, named HyperIMBA, to alleviate the hierarchy-imbalance issue caused by uneven hierarchy-levels and cross-hierarchy connectivity patterns of labeled nodes.Extensive experimental results demonstrate the superior effectiveness of HyperIMBA for hierarchy-imbalance node classification tasks.Comment: Accepted by Web Conference (WWW) 202

    cTFbase: a database for comparative genomics of transcription factors in cyanobacteria

    BACKGROUND: Comprehensive identification and classification of the transcription factors (TFs) in a given genome is an important aspect in understanding transcriptional regulatory networks of a specific organism. Cyanobacteria are an ancient group of gram-negative bacteria with strong variation in genome size ranging from about 1.6 to 9.1 Mb and little is known about their TF repertoires. Therefore, we constructed the cTFbase database to classify and analyze all the putative TFs in cyanobacterial genomes, followed by genome-wide comparative analysis. DESCRIPTION: In the current release, cTFbase contains 1288 putative TFs identified from 21 fully sequenced cyanobacterial genomes. Through its user-friendly interactive interface, users can employ various criteria to retrieve all TF sequences and their detailed annotation information, including sequence features, domain architecture and sequence similarity against the linked databases. Furthermore, cTFbase provides phylogenetic trees of individual TF family, multiple sequence alignments of the DNA-binding domains and ortholog identification from any selected genomes. Comparative analysis revealed great variability of the TF sequences in cyanobacterial genomes. The high variance on the gene number and domain organization would be related to their diverse biological functions and their adaptation to various environmental conditions. CONCLUSION: cTFbase provides a centralized warehouse for comparative analysis of putative TFs in cyanobacterial genomes. The availability of such an extensive database would be of great interest for the community of researchers working on TFs or transcriptional regulatory networks in cyanobacteria. cTFbase can be freely accessible at and will be continuously updated when the newly sequenced cyanobacterial genomes are available

    Whole brain radiotherapy plus simultaneous in-field boost with image guided intensity-modulated radiotherapy for brain metastases of non-small cell lung cancer

    BACKGROUND: Whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) plus sequential focal radiation boost is a commonly used therapeutic strategy for patients with brain metastases. However, recent reports on WBRT plus simultaneous in-field boost (SIB) also showed promising outcomes. The objective of present study is to retrospectively evaluate the efficacy and toxicities of WBRT plus SIB with image guided intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IG-IMRT) for inoperable brain metastases of NSCLC. METHODS: Twenty-nine NSCLC patients with 87 inoperable brain metastases were included in this retrospective study. All patients received WBRT at a dose of 40 Gy/20 f, and SIB boost with IG-IMRT at a dose of 20 Gy/5 f concurrent with WBRT in the fourth week. Prior to each fraction of IG-IMRT boost, on-line positioning verification and correction were used to ensure that the set-up errors were within 2 mm by cone beam computed tomography in all patients. RESULTS: The one-year intracranial control rate, local brain failure rate, and distant brain failure rate were 62.9%, 13.8%, and 19.2%, respectively. The two-year intracranial control rate, local brain failure rate, and distant brain failure rate were 42.5%, 30.9%, and 36.4%, respectively. Both median intracranial progression-free survival and median survival were 10 months. Six-month, one-year, and two-year survival rates were 65.5%, 41.4%, and 13.8%, corresponding to 62.1%, 41.4%, and 10.3% of intracranial progression-free survival rates. Patients with Score Index for Radiosurgery in Brain Metastases (SIR) >5, number of intracranial lesions <3, and history of EGFR-TKI treatment had better survival. Three lesions (3.45%) demonstrated radiation necrosis after radiotherapy. Grades 2 and 3 cognitive impairment with grade 2 radiation leukoencephalopathy were observed in 4 (13.8%) and 4 (13.8%) patients. No dosimetric parameters were found to be associated with these late toxicities. Patients received EGFR-TKI treatment had higher incidence of grades 2–3 cognitive impairment with grade 2 leukoencephalopathy. CONCLUSIONS: WBRT plus SIB with IG-IMRT is a tolerable and effective treatment for NSCLC patients with inoperable brain metastases. However, the results of present study need to be examined by the prospective investigations

    Cancer type-specific modulation of mitochondrial haplogroups in breast, colorectal and thyroid cancer

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups and single nucleotide polymorphisms (mtSNP) have been shown to play a role in various human conditions including aging and some neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic diseases and cancer.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>To investigate whether mtDNA haplogroups contribute to the occurrence of cancer in a specific Chinese population, we have carried out a comprehensive case-control study of mtDNA from large cohorts of patients with three common cancer types, namely, colorectal cancer (n = 108), thyroid cancer (n = 100) and breast cancer (n = 104), in Wenzhou, a southern Chinese city in the Zhejiang Province.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We found that patients with mtDNA haplogroup M exhibited an increased risk of breast cancer occurrence [OR = 1.77; 95% CI (1.03-3.07); P = 0.040], and that this risk was even more pronounced in a sub-haplogroup of M, D5 [OR = 3.11; 95%CI (1.07-9.06); p = 0.030]. In spite of this, in patients with breast cancer, haplogroup M was decreased in the metastatic group. On the other hand, our results also showed that haplogroup D4a was associated with an increased risk of thyroid cancer [OR = 3.00; 95%CI (1.09-8.29); p = 0.028]. However, no significant correlation has been detected between any mtDNA haplogroups and colorectal cancer occurrence.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our investigation indicates that mitochondrial haplogroups could have a tissue-specific, population-specific and stage-specific role in modulating cancer development.</p

    Hyperspectral LiDAR-Based Plant Spectral Profiles Acquisition : Performance Assessment and Results Analysis

    In precision agriculture, efficient fertilization is one of the most important pursued goals. Vegetation spectral profiles and the corresponding spectral parameters are usually employed for vegetation growth status indication, i.e., vegetation classification, bio-chemical content mapping, and efficient fertilization guiding. In view of the fact that the spectrometer works by relying on ambient lighting condition, hyperspectral/multi-spectral LiDAR (HSL/MSL) was invented to collect the spectral profiles actively. However, most of the HSL/MSL works with the wavelength specially selected for specific applications. For precision agriculture applications, a more feasible HSL capable of collecting spectral profiles at wide-range spectral wavelength is necessary to extract various spectral parameters. Inspired by this, in this paper, we developed a hyperspectral LiDAR (HSL) with 10 nm spectral resolution covering 500~1000 nm. Different vegetation leaf samples were scanned by the HSL, and it was comprehensively assessed for wide-range wavelength spectral profiles acquirement, spectral parameters extraction, vegetation classification, and the laser incident angle effect. Specifically, three experiments were carried out: (1) spectral profiles results were compared with that from a SVC spectrometer (HR-1024, Spectra Vista Corporation); (2) the extracted spectral parameters from the HSL were assessed, and they were employed as the input features of a support vector machine (SVM) classifier with multiple labels to classify the vegetation; (3) in view of the influence of the laser incident angle on the HSL reflected laser intensities, we analyzed the laser incident angle effect on the spectral parameters values. The experimental results demonstrated the developed HSL was more feasible for acquiring spectral profiles with wide-range wavelength, and spectral parameters and vegetation classification results also indicated its great potentials in precision agriculture application

    Review on Active and Passive Remote Sensing Techniques for Road Extraction

    Digital maps of road networks are a vital part of digital cities and intelligent transportation. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review on road extraction based on various remote sensing data sources, including high-resolution images, hyperspectral images, synthetic aperture radar images, and light detection and ranging. This review is divided into three parts. Part 1 provides an overview of the existing data acquisition techniques for road extraction, including data acquisition methods, typical sensors, application status, and prospects. Part 2 underlines the main road extraction methods based on four data sources. In this section, road extraction methods based on different data sources are described and analysed in detail. Part 3 presents the combined application of multisource data for road extraction. Evidently, different data acquisition techniques have unique advantages, and the combination of multiple sources can improve the accuracy of road extraction. The main aim of this review is to provide a comprehensive reference for research on existing road extraction technologies.Peer reviewe

    Strategy and management of severe hemorrhage complicating pancreatitis and post-pancreatectomy

    PURPOSE:Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) is increasingly used as the first-line treatment for hemorrhage complicating pancreatitis and post-pancreatectomy. However, the optimal therapeutic strategy remains unclear.METHODS:Among 1924 consecutive patients, 40 patients with severe pancreatic hemorrhage in Xuanwu Hospital were enrolled between 2005 and 2017. Patients underwent angiography and direct TAE for primary diagnosis and treatment of bleeding. Repeat TAE, watch and wait, and laparotomy were used as the other therapeutic options. Patient data, technical success, and 90-day survival were identified.RESULTS:Pancreatic diseases underlying hemorrhage included acute pancreatitis (n=19, 47.5%), chronic pancreatitis (n=12, 30%), and pancreatic cancer (n=9, 22.5%). A history of percutaneous catheter drainage or pancreatic surgery was seen in 29 patients (72.5%). There were 48 angiographies, 31 embolizations, and 5 laparotomies performed. Rebleeding occurred in 8 patients (20%); 4 of whom underwent re-embolization, 3 had laparotomy, and 1 had conservative treatment. Successful clinical hemostasis was achieved in 37 patients. Complications were observed in only 2 patients with renal failure and 1 patient with hepatic insufficiency. In total, 25 patients (62.5%) were alive at the 90-day follow-up.CONCLUSION:Endovascular management is effective for achieving hemostasis in severe pancreatic hemorrhage with a high success rate and low recurrence, and laparotomy is not suitable for rebleeding cases
